Speaking about the Transfiguration of Christ, Fr. Mario
Hadgiti, Superior of Mt. Tabor in the Holy Land, said, “To be able to see God, as did the three
disciples here, we must be prepared to climb the mountain, that is to say, to
accept the effort and the sweat that we are required to live each day”
(complete video below).
Moreover, it is transformation itself that we are called
to, openness to our own transformation in the sight of God and of each
other. We are called to transform
ourselves, insofar as humanly possible, into the image of God, to be faithful
as God is faithful, to love as God loves, in spite of the difficulties we might
have in “climbing the mountain.” Each of
life’s tests is transformative, and, as Abraham learns when asked to sacrifice
Isaac, tests of our faith can be among the most powerful, and the most
revealing. Each time our faith is tested,
we must strive to allow ourselves to be transformed so that faith, and
faithfulness, become a way of life.
