Today, as we receive a cross of ashes in our foreheads, we are challenged to "turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel." In other words, we are called to conversion, to repentance; we are called to renounce sin and self-centeredness and to become a God-centered people. Through our openness to God's presence in our lives, which we demonstrate through fasting, prayer, and alms, we allow God to work in us, to change our hearts, this time, every time, anew. As we begin our observance of Lent, may we pray for true change, and a profound renewal of our lives through God's grace.
