Does anyone know the history of this this work of art, the Ark of the Covenant in the photo? I’m curious as to the use of the pentagram? Is it a Christian symbol?
ReplyDeleteApparently, in medieval times, the five-pointed star / pentagram came to be identified with the Five Joys of Mary (Annunciation, Nativity, Resurrection, Ascension, and Assumption), in part thanks to the chivalric stories of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight; Sir Gawain's shield had a five-pointed star in honor of the Virgin Mary for that reason.
