Take shelter within the splendor of Triduum!

It's difficult to find the right words to describe the Easter Triduum – its beauty and solemnity, its pregnant meaning...   Those who have experienced it just once find themselves waiting impatiently for these three days throughout all the season of Lent.  Triduum is the goal, the culmination, the extraordinary endpoint of our journey through forty days in the Lenten desert.  It is unlike any other moment in the Church’s liturgical calendar – it’s almost like stepping over a threshold, out of chronological time and into kairos time, into a sacred space unique in the depth of engagement it offers, and in the beauty of liturgy that graces it.  Nothing, nothing, is like the Triduum liturgy, three awed days of total immersion, body, heart, and soul, into the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of our Lord.

This year, of course, nothing will be exactly as it has been, and yet participants in the parish's live-streamed Mass have remarked repeatedly on the peace liturgy has brought into the chaos of the pandemic, and the sense of true community that has been renewed in a time when we are unable to be physically present together at church.  The spiritual communion we celebrate during live-streamed Mass takes root in the love flowing from one to another as we pray together.  Our Lady of Mount Carmel will be streaming an abbreviated set of Triduum liturgies.  Most of us have a bit of time on our hands, so... if you have never participated before in Triduum before, now is the time.  Rest assured, you will never forget the incredible experience of time-out-of-time that Triduum allows.

Liturgies will be live streamed on Facebook; the page is open to and accessible by anyone, even if you are not on Facebook.  https://www.facebook.com/mountcarmelmv/.  (If you are prompted to open an account, just click Not now and continue to the page.)

Join us online first on Holy Thursday evening (7:30pm PST) for the Feast of the Lord's Supper and recall Jesus kneeling humbly before his disciples to wash their feet, then blessing, breaking and sharing bread -- the first Eucharist -- with his disciples...

Meditate on our yearly Veneration of the Wood of the Cross in remembrance of his death as you view the most extraordinary Communion service of the liturgical year this Good Friday (1:30pm PST)...

Know that the Light of Christ is filling Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church on Holy Saturday Evening at the Easter Vigil (8:30pm PST), and hear the story of salvation history from Genesis to Romans... punctuated with a joy-filled Gloria that tells us that Resurrection is at hand...

And then, at last, on Easter Sunday (10:15am PST), join aloud at home in the elated proclamation of Jesus Risen and know in the depth of your being God's faithful and abiding love... Alleluia!

Join us and take shelter
within the splendor of Triduum!
