Jesus meets them where they are (Fr. James Martin)

How could the first disciples drop everything so quickly and follow Jesus?

[N]otice how he meets the disciples.  Because how Jesus meets them tells us something about how God meets us.  Basically, he meets them where they are…

Jesus does this over and over in the Gospels, meeting people where they are, bending down to talk to them, embracing them, forgiving them their sins.  Giving them just what they need at that moment.  And speaking to them in the language of the everyday lives of the people of that time:  talking to them about birds and seeds and wheat and weeds.  Or in this case speaking about fishing to fishermen.  Our experiences of God are tailored to us.  God meets us where we are, and speaks to using a language that we can understand.
