Kintsukoroi, or Healing

Kintsukuroi

We are all broken; we all have areas of our lives in need of healing, of repair.  Kintsukuroi, the Japanese art of repairing pottery with gold or silver lacquer, rendering the work even more exquisite than it might originally have been, offers us a powerful image to consider as we contemplate the power of God's action in our lives.

In healing our brokenness, God makes us more beautiful for having been broken, and thus more susceptible to a deeper appreciation of God's own remarkable faithfulness. It's up to us to return that faithfulness with as much love and grace as we can, in gratitude for what is no longer broken, embracing whatever might still be in need of care, and with conviction that with God, all healing is possible.
